What the hell is wrong with people?!

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7581540.stm

A few weeks ago it was a USB stick containing information on pretty much every registered criminal and now computers are getting sold on ebay with bank customers details still present in the hard drives?! *Sigh*

I already wrote a long ranty post about this subject just last year, what with HMRC losing lots of personal data and having what were just rather incompetent data protection mechanisms.  I know a year in someways isn’t that long to expect miracles but at the same time… What the hell?! Businesses & the government need to get their act together.

Well the Olympics are over for another 4 years and wow what an Olympics it was. :)   I’m sure I remember seeing something on the news about how for 2012 the British team were aiming for 19 golds, and I can’t remember how many silver or bronze, and I thought to myself, “Hmm, well that’s unlikely to happen”.  I’m just too used to getting disappointed in the Football, Cricket, Rugby and all that.

You can imagine then that this Olympics turned out to be a rather pleasant surprise for me and probably a lot of other people.

19 Golds, 13 Silvers and 15 Bronze for at total of 47 Medals. Meaning that we can 4th.. FOURTH in the medals table, behind China (with 100 medals, 51 Gold), USA (with 110 medals, 36 Gold) and Russia (72 medals, 23 Gold). WOW.

We got 14 medals alone from the cyclists, with sailing, rowing and canoeing giving us quite a few more. The Australians, have joked that we only do well in the sitting down sports.. I think they might be a little bitter ;)

It was an amazing games, especially when you consider that both China and the USA had over 600 athletes each, while Britain had about half that number. And our best medal haul in 100 years. :)

Now I’m looking forward to 2012 (I’m just going to have to learn to cope with that god awful logo thou), and I’m definitely getting tickets to see.. something.. maybe the cycling? Swimming? Something at least! :)

Hehehe!! So a few weeks ago I saw the Eldar E3 trailer for Dawn of War II, and I must say its a fantastic trailer, the graphics are amazing and it really shows off Eldar and Space Marines really well!! The trailer ends with the Space Marine Captain slashing at the Eldar Farseer with his chain sword and saying “This world is ours, Witch!” with the dying Farseer answering “Wrong, this world is theirs.” And she points up to the sky, and all we see is a rather reddish looking night sky. The trailer then cuts out to say Dawn of War II, coming soon (or something like that). Leaving you going “Whose?! Whose world is it?!”

What was my reaction then? “Tyranids! Its got to be Tyranids! Oh I hope its Tyranids!”

What did C find today? A slightly extended Eldar Trailer, showing who turns up

and also This

(Sorry the Embedded video just didn’t want to work :( )

I was right!! Tyranids!! SQUEEEEE!!! I am sooooo very excited! Look at the awesomeness!!! The utter utter awesomeness of them!

So after a rather long stint (I say long stint.. i think it was only a couple of weeks) of not really having anything to knit and not really feeling like working on any of my WIPS. I finally got started on (as I mentioned in a previous post) and finished a cardigan. And I love it. :)

Pattern: Kaleidoscope and (non-Ravelry Pattern)

Yarn: NH Knitting Mama’s Moody Blues (Sock yarn)

Needles: 5MM

Kaleidoscope-fini
Isn’t it fab? I did get very worried at the blocking stage, the button holes were HUGE afterwards and there was no way it was going to stay done up (and I have to say it looks a bit funny not done up) but my mum is wonderful and reinforced the button holes for me to make them smaller. Now the buttons fit just fine. :) (I got the buttons from John Lewis.)  I now absolutely love this cardigan, if I’m honest the shoulder bit is maybe a little too big, its supposed to sit low there but it ends up just falling off mine after a while. But oh well who cares, its one of the few things I’ve made so far that I will be able to get a lot of wear out.  Now I just need to get hold of some more tops that go with this. It just doesn’t look right with high round necked t-shirts.

Next project? Another cardigan, some gloves (not for me), scarf (again not for me) and a top (for which I have some purchased some really lovely merino from ColourMart, I can’t wait to get started on that, but I have to get started on these other things first!)

In other news my project, for the moment is going well. I’m pretty much at the write up stage with 3 weeks to go, and after having seen my project supervisor today well, I seem to be on track with the write up to. :)

And in additional news, I was originally informed that I wouldn’t be able to go to my graduation as it was in November and there just wouldn’t be enough time between handing in the project and getting the marks sorted before the ceremony. Well the ceremony has now been pushed back to December so I will now have a ceremony! Thank goodness for that, I may have to dress up in a silly gown and hat for the 2nd time in my life but its definitely worth it. No matter what grade I get in the end I’ve worked HARD for this damnit! :)

So I’m going to post this link here in the hopes that the some of the few people who read this blog may be inclined to answer this survey.

The survey is about gaming, there are only 4 questions and its for my MSc project, so the more responses the better. I’ll be very greatful for any and all responses. :)

Warhammer & Knitting 6 August 2008

Wow am I lazy, I’ve been meaning to make a post for days and I keep getting distracted, by Uni work, Dawn of War, Assassins Creed, Bioshock and Knitting. It was my bday a week or so ago so I have been making use of some of my presents. Also there IS knitting content in this post.. Its just hidden away at the bottom, so if your not interested in Warhammer 40k please do scroll down. :) (Yes I realise that I came up with an immensely original title for this post.. :P )

Anyway here is another one of my presents:

Yes its a Tyranid Army, my wonderful boyfriend C did buy it for me. :) I’ve calculated that with all the modifications that I can make to my Tyranids then I will have about a 1500 point army. Not bad considering I can have 3 Carnifex’s in that! ^_^ Its funny I’ve never really been into Warhammer stuff, I mean I’ve always sort of liked the idea of buying maybe a tank or a dragon or something just to paint. But now that I’ve started to get to know the 40k Universe, what with playing in the Dark Heresy RP game, Dawn of War and having C talk about it a lot. Its a really well thought out universe with crap loads of back story which just makes it much more alive, even if Humanity is on the verge of being overrun by.. lots of horrible things, Tyranids being just one of them. :)

The great thing about Tyranids is that I can effectively paint them anyway I want, many of the other armies are a bit more restricted, or at least it seems that way to me. I’ve had the idea for the colour scheme that I’d like to use for a while, I saw a picture that someone had drawn of a Weevil and went “Perfect”. It consisted of dark blue, light blue and some rather bright green. So I decided to assemble my very first Warhammer 40k model, a Tyranid Warrior.

Look at those Scything Talons! There is a set of smaller talons, which seems to be the ones on the Tyranid Warrior in their Codex, but seriously why wouldn’t you put those ones on? I mean Tyranids are supposed to be scary and those? Well I’d say their scary at least. Talons taller than it, in fact taller than a Genestealer!

Here’s my warrior with its base coat and the first layer of blue paint, I have to say it was really awkward getting the paint to go where it was needed. There are lots of crevice’s!

Jumping forward a few pictures (because really I don’t need to show them all now). Here is my finished Warrior. :)

(Yes I know its a really crappy picture, I’m really going to need to invest in a better camera, my phone camera is just not cutting it these days.)

Now I just have another 56 more models to paint!! Including 3 rather large Carnifex’s! Eeep!

And now onto the Knitting content.

I also got one of these for my birthday:

Yup a ball winder! I have to say it made winding a 460 yard skein of wool SOOOOOO much easier!

Getting this also meant that I could finally start on an item that’s been in my Ravelry queue for ages!

Pattern: Kaleidoscope Cardigan (Non-Ravelry Link)

Yarn: NH Knitting Mama’s Moody Blues (Sock yarn)

Kaleidoscope

Isn’t the colour really pretty? And this pattern is so quick and easy! I only started this a few days ago and I’m just at the collar. All I have left to do is the sleeve and the button band (and to find some buttons) and then its pretty much done.  Well.. It’ll need blocking,  and I just seem to be so awful at getting things sorted to do my blocking! I mean I’ve finally finished knitting my Laminaria, in fact I finished that about a month ago, and I still have not blocked it, neither have I blocked  a lace scarf that I finished about a week later.
