Blah Reports… 23 July 2008

I hate writing up reports, I mean I know where I want to go with this section I’m trying to write for my Project. In fact its a fairly simple section mearly doing a quick explination of data warehousing and yet I find it really hard to write coherant sentences. Seriously this bit I want to write isn’t hard, I could realy write it by the end of today. I just need to somehow bring it all together and that is something I’m just finding impossible at the moment.

So far the score is Vista Service Pack One 2, Me 0. Hell I say 2, but it depends what your counting here, if 2 is the number of big attempts I’ve made to install this thing (searching Google for help, running various error scans and changing settings) then its correct. But if its the number of times I have actually physically tried to install SP1, then.. its what.. 6..? 7? Each individual install and then reverting changes taking.. hmm an hour at least?
I have pretty much tried almost every resolution listed on this website: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947366 to no avail.
The error code I get from the Windows Update history is 8004100A, which.. even after a google search I cannot find much out about it.
I’ve even tried downloading SP1 (luckily it didn’t take too long, considering its well over 400MB), installed that.. and.. what do you know that didn’t work either. And what helpful error message did I get? 800F0826, which is the error code telling you that an update has failed. Gee. Thanks. Like I hadn’t already noticed.
Can you tell that I’m just a little bit fed up??
I’m going to have to call Microsoft’s helpline next week I think. *sigh* I hate phones, and I really do not want to faff about on this machine too much, I have project work to do.

3rd entry today I know.. but don’t you just hate it when you look at a word a few times too often and suddenly it just doesn’t look right to you? Even thou Word is telling me the word Dimensions is spelt right it just looks wrong.

Nope… its that E and the first S… it just looks like Dim-Ensions, , or Dime-n-Sions.. which I suppose if you say the first one out loud does sort of work, but the second one? I just keep seeing the word Dime now…
*sigh* And I’ll be using this word a lot in my project report. Joy!
Edit: oooh could also be Di-Men-Sions! Gahh!

Yes I know I’ve only just posted a post, and I suppose I could have combined the two, but well I started writing my Pride post a few days ago, and if I’d gotten around to it and posted it when I’d started then.. this would have been a separate post anyway. So..
(Yes I’m aware I’m babbling like a silly thing)
I went to Boxercise for the first time since.. last August I believe. The evilness of having uni classes on Tuesday evening’s prevented me from going at all really since then. So me and E went for the first time in ages, and well I’d forgotten just how hard it is! I built up a serious sweat and I’m quite glad each bit is broken down into sections, even so I did feel like my arms were going to drop off at one point. It does give you a real good feeling though afterwards and amazingly I don’t ache as much as I thought I would today thou.
I’m going to have to try and make sure I don’t leave such a long gap between classes again, actually it’d be great if I could go every other weak or so. Would help to build up that upper body strength that I’m sorely lacking!

On Saturday me, C and several friends went to watch Pride. I was a little bit iffy about going in the morning because it was rather wet and cloudy, but luckily it cleared up and became quite nice and sunny and reasonably warm. Which of course meant I had to take some suntan lotion with me, as I tend to burn in the sun. So after managing to meet up with everyone, and then finding a reasonably good spot to stand in on Regent Street, we waited for the parade.
Here are a couple of pictures, first one is the Amnesty International Float, bearing what I thought to be some good words of wisdom and an important message.
Next we have “Amy Winehouse”, in fact there were several “Amy Winehouse’s” I wonder if its because she’s been in the news a ‘little’ bit? ![]()

Environment Agency… Green’s the theme.
I do not want to know how heavy those wigs must have been, nor how hot!
And finally, not only must that have been an uncomfortably hot and heavy costume, but it was also windy, not seconds after this photo the two people on either side had to help pull him forward because he couldn’t move due to the gust of wind!
In fact the wind had fun with several peoples attempts at holding banners, sometimes they just couldn’t move forward. It also made me laugh that the Police only brought a crappy white transit with just Police written on the front of it for their part in the parade, whereas the Fire brigade brought a fire truck. I think we know who wins there for coolness factor.
It was also amusing that a part of the scenery for the Civil Service truck fell off, I’m sure it doesnt’ represent anything.. not really.
I had a good time at Pride, my one complaint however is that its just starting to get too long, it took an hour for the whole parade to go past. I’m pretty sure it wasn’t that long a few years ago. Now don’t’ get me wrong, I’m glad that people/charities/companies want to take part in pride but at the same time, an hour’s a long time.

Or perhaps I should say ecstatic?
I just checked my universities on-line system to see my final module results and.. Well. I actually saw some of them last week but they weren’t all up, now they are. And well, I think you can guess that I’m pretty damn pleased with them! My worst exam was Database Administration (in the 50%s) however every other module I seem to have done amazingly well on, (above 70%)(Well ok Java was 69% but still, it really pulled my mark up for that considering I did so badly on the very first in class test). So yes I am really quite quite happy!
Now all that’s left is to get my project done, (I do hope we get a marking scheme for that, as it would help).
Heheh, ahh gosh this MSc, which has been such hard work, is nearly done!! Just gota pull it together with this project, and start job hunting. Phew.
